The Lumia 950 XL

Windows 10 Mobile Update is upon us! Late this year until around February 2016, Microsoft will be rolling out its latest mobile update for Lumia phones with Windows 8.1 operating system. This is in line with the launch of its flagship Microsoft Windows phone, the Lumia 950 line, this November.

So here goes:

1. Lumia phones with Windows 8.1 that will be updated to Windows 10, starting December 14:

2. Device Support for Windows 10 Mobile

While Lumia and HTC One are the supported phones the get preview releases for now, you can expect the proliferation devices (from phones to phablets to tablets) that will support Windows 10.

3. Universal App System

Windows 10 Mobile boasts of a universal app system that allows any app made for the PC to run on a Windows 10 Mobile device with minimal tweaks

4. iOS and Android apps can now be ported!

Expect to see more apps that are made available to iOS and Android devices to see the light of day on a Windows 10 Mobile device.

5. Your smartphone turns into a PC with “Continuum”

Another promising feature of Windows 10 Mobile is the “Continuum” wherein your phone can be used as an improvised PC. Just plug your phone into any peripherals that supports Windows 10 Mobile (like external monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.) and your device’s user interface will adapt a PC desktop interface.

6. Goodbye, Explorer! Hello, Edge!

There’s a new web browser for your Windows 10 Mobile and it’s called Edge. Browsing is much faster, and it supports reading lists, onscreen annotations, and extensions.

7. Synchronized notifications between devices

Any notification between devices that support Windows 10 Mobile is synced, so if you dismiss a notification from one device, that notification has already been dismissed from your PC.

8. Improved keyboard

Windows 10 Mobile is keeping Word Flow from Windows Phone 8.1 and has enhanced it further. You can now resize the keyboard and move it around the screen where you want it to be.

9. A new photos app!

This new photos app for Windows 10 Mobile lets you sync your photo library across all devices. It even creates an album for easy indexing!

10. The Lumia Camera app is now the default camera

Because of the raves it got, the Lumia Camera app is now the default camera for all Windows 10 Mobile devices. That means, you can now take auto-HDR shots, with 4K video recording capability, and Dynamic Flash to boot!

But if you’d rather get a Lumia phone with Windows 10 Mobile in it than wait for the updates, Lumia 950 will be released before the end of the year!
