Dramatic actresses such as Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, Nicole Kidman and others make audience feel awe-inspiring characters. On the other side, there are also actresses who also venture in physically challenging roles that make moviegoers believe that women are also born action stars. Here some of the actresses who are popular for their action-pack lead roles:
Uma Thurman: Kill Bill series
Thurman did several unconventional movies like the cult classic Pulp Fiction (1994) directed by award-wining director Quentin Tarantino. In 2003 and 2004, these two artists joined forces again to do Kill Bill series. This movie is definitely about revenge, but its highlights due to its bloody and mind-blowing action scenes. Uma portrayed The Bride or Beatrix Kiddo, who was unsuccessfully assassinated of her fellow Deadly Viper Assassination Squad members. Before beating her archenemy Bill (played by the late David Carradine), she had strings of bouts against Bill’s accomplices during her wedding massacre. Each of these bouts are worth watching for due to stunning martial arts techniques and sword fighting moves.
Jennifer Garner: Elektra
Garner catapulted to stardom with her successful TV Series Alias, an action-drama show, where she’s Sydney Bristow. In cinemas, she also tried to duplicate it in a body hugging red suit as Elektra. She first portrayed it in DareDevil, a film where she met her former husband Ben Affleck. Then in 2005, she revived the role, but this time she’s the lead superhero and solely fought humans with extra powers. The film got negative reviews due to story line, but nevertheless Garner portrayed Elektra effectively.
Angelina Jolie: Salt/ Tomb Raider series/ Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Jolie is one, if not the most, well-accepted female action stars. In the video game adaption film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, she’s femme fatale who any villains should not mess up with. Here we could see how Mrs. Brad Pitt handled big guns, drove big vehicles and beat guys like a true heroine.
In 2010 she did Salt, a something like the female version of Bourne film series of Matt Damon. Here Jolie seriously struggling for her life with the thrilling chasing, torture, and gun fighting scenes. Aside from these two, Angelina was also in Wanted (with Jason McAvoy), The Tourist (with Johnny Depp), and of course, Mr. and Mrs. Smith ( with her husband Brad Pitt).
