The Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) has yet again opened its doors to book lovers and enthusiasts. MIBF, now on its 37th year, offered another exciting experience to bookworms and lovers around the city.
Truly, books can give you an experience worth everything else. There are a few things you should be reminding yourself of (in case you really wanted to go). If you have missed this year’s MIBF, then you could use these few friendly tips for your next year book hauling and hunting!
- Know the schedule. Before going to the haven of booklovers, one thing to keep you on track is to know the scheduled activities for each day. Aside from ultimate shopping of books, MIBF also offers bookworms talks, book launches, book signing, and programs that would highlight anything about books. The Gintong Aklat Awards is an example which is usually held every two years. Together with the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP), MIBF held the Gintong Aklat Awards which acknowledges publishers who have excellently provided us with quality books. Books under categories such as Literature in English, Literature in Filipino, Food, Arts and Humanities, and Social Sciences. You can visit MIBF Facebook page to know the schedules. You can also check activities of exhibitors such as National Bookstore and Fully Book, and get a chance to win prizes.
- Make a lists. From series to teen fiction to inspirational and motivational books, make a lists the books you wanted to read and have waited for a year to be read! In this way, you can avoid the hustle and bustle of other book haulers.
- Have money. One of the things you should remember in book fairs is to have money. Yes! Even if they are on a 10, 20, 30 or whatever percent the discount is, have enough budget when you go to book fairs. Otherwise, you’ll end up broken hearted because you were not able to buy that book you always wanted. Trust me! I’ve seen a whole set of Harry Potter series and I wasn’t able to buy them so I came out empty handed. Boo hoo!
- Have fun! And the last thing we should all remember is to have extreme fun. We know how the smell of books and discounted prices of them can give you that adrenaline rush! We know how you get all jiggy and excited when you found out that MIBF will open soon. And we know you have been waiting for this! So, once you are there in the middle of an ocean of book, grab the chance and enjoy. Join contests and activities even if you are not sure if you will win. Who cares about the price? What is important is the moment you spend with your precious books. On our first day, we joined a coloring contests sponsored by Precious Pages, and won a book from NBS. Sweet!
