Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, shares the latest news on the Jumanji movie that will be released in July 2017.
In an Instagram post by the actor, he shares an update about Fast and the Furious wrapping up shooting. In the post, he also mentioned something about the new movie Jumanji. Contrary to what rumors we have heard about a remake or a reboot, Johnson says that it’s neither of the two. He says its a ‘continuation’ of the first one which starred the late Robin Williams.
Johnson says, ““In two weeks I’ll reunite with ol’ friends Kevin Hart and Jack Black and we have the honor to introduce a whole new generation to the amazing world of Jumanji. For the record we are NOT making a reboot, but rather a continuation of the awesome Jumanji story.”
When Johnson said “continuation,” we’re assuming that it won’t be a direct sequel. With Jack Black and Kevin Hart starring in the new flick, there’ll probably be a lot of antics in the Jumanji cinematic universe. A lot of scenes in the new movie will be acknowledging the events of the past, and with it a brand new story.
This is similar to how Jurassic World was shown as a part of the Jurassic Park franchise, but appearing to be a bit different.
The new movie will start shooting this fall, and is being directed by Jake Kasdan.
The original Jumanji was not successful in toppling the box office over two decades ago. When Sony announced its intention to remake the film last August, it was met with widespread criticism because of the announcement’s proximity to Robin Williams’ death.
