It’s that time of the year again where Filipino filmmakers and movie goers are excited for the annual Metro Manila Film Festival! It runs from the 25th of December until some time in January, wherein some cinemas are filled with local films.

  1. Beauty and the Bestie
    Action, Comedy
    Directed by Wenn V. Deramas

Get ready for bags of laughter with Vice Ganda and Coco Martin, and a handful of kilig moments with the rising teen love team, James Reid and Nadine Lustre AKA Jadine, as they tell a story of friendship mixed with action and romance! The director, Wenn V. Deramas, is also known for a lot more comedy films such as Praybeyt Benjamin, Sisterakas, Ang Tanging Ina, and Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy.

  1. Honor thy Father
    Directed by Erik Matti
    Action, Drama, Crime

Are you ready to see John Lloyd Cruz as a character who plays a more serious role? According to Totel V. De Jesus, from, “It is described a suspense thriller, about “a pair of married white-collar swindlers clashing with their latest victims.’” The director, Erik Matti, is also known for his film, On the Job, which garnered several awards in the Star Awards for Movies in 2014.

What do you really need this season? Does love really have to be always sad and heavy? Find out in this star-studded film with Kris Aquino, Derek Ramsey, the teleserye Pangako Sa’Yo’s famous loveteam, Ian Veneracion and Jodi Sta. Maria, and the power couple Xian Lim and Kim Chui! The director, Antoinette Jadaone, is also known for her feel-good “hugot” films such as You’re My Boss and That Thing Called Tadhana.

Are you a big fan of horror films? This MMFF season, Jun Lana introduces you to a bone chilling experience! It starts in a retreat house, wherein the students dive in for a ghost hunting that does not disappoint them. Watch out for Janella Salvador, Marlo Mortel, Jerome Ponce, Janice De Belen, Iza Calzado, and a lot more stars that would send you under your sheets. The director, Jun Lana, is known for his films such as The Pre-Nup, Barber’s Tales, and Mag-Ingat Ka Sa Kulam.

    Romantic Comedy

Are you ready for the most loved couple this season? Witness the first ever film of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, also known as AlDub, together with Aiai Delas Alas and Vic Sotto. The story revolves around the budding romance between a couple whose families are at war with each other. Don’t miss out! The director, Jose Javier Reyes, also directed Til My Heartaches End, Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo, and Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi.

Are you a sucker for thrillers? Vhong Navarro’s character introduces you to the mysterious film that circles within depths of secrets and magic. Watch out for Alex Gonzaga, Rayver Cruz, and John Lapus in this movie!
